I'm about to try ACV for acid reflux (fingers crossed). I've read about taking it in 8 ounces of water, regardless of how much ACV you put in (one, two, or three teaspoonfuls). I've also been told that if you can swallow it straight, that's even better. If that is true, I'd guess that if you can't take it straight, that 4 to 6 ounces would be better than the full 8. 10 - 20 minutes before a meal seems to be the standard recommendation. Does ACV start losing its properties after 20 minutes? If dinner is delayed, and it ends up being 40 minutes afterwards, is the ACV now ineffective? Thanks for any input.

In reply to Nancy:
Please read the link at the top of this page for Apple Cider Vinegar, also read the details on Ailment: Acid Reflux.
You need to drink ACV slightly acid at all times. However, if it is too acid it can corrode your teeth - see details in the above link.
Drinking alkaline baking soda after a meal will give temporary relief but is the exact OPPOSITE of what you need to heal reflux - see details in the above link.

Will mixing ACV with baking soda have no effect to help digest as acid is offset by baking soda? Would that will be better if take ACV before food and baking soda after food when feeling acid come?

Apple cider vinegar and fresh lemon / lime / citrus juice are our most effective and voted for remedies for acid reflux / heartburn. Read above why is it beneficial to take them with sodium bicarbonate (baking soda).
Baking soda is also a fantastic way to alkalise the body, and is a great remedy for many skin ailments.

I'm not usually someone that writes my experiences on websites however, this is an exception. For most of my young adult life I lived virtually every day with acid reflux. Burning stomach, burning throat. I took baking soda in a glass of water, or antacid tablets for relief. I went to the doc for coughing fits, hoarseness and difficulty swallowing, not realising it was connected to my acid reflux. He put me on some purple pills which had absolutely no positive result. My digestion was weak and the situation was getting worse. A friend told me to drink a glass of water with apple cider vinegar three times per day. Well, that was the last day I had acid reflux in the last 25 years. Yes, I have not had a relapse in 25 years! I don't overeat, and stay clear of sugar and big greasy meals. All the problems with my coughing and throat also cleared up after a few months. They were all linked. From my experience, the amount and frequency of ACV needs to be determined by trial and error. I still drink a glass of ACV and water every day. YES, ACV does cure acid reflux. I also want to say shame on the doctors when there is such a simple cure for heartburn and all the complications that it causes.

For about ten years I have been having a problem with acid reflux. My doctor has put me on acid reflux medications (nexium, lansoprazole, omeprazol, etc) which relieve the symptoms when it gets really bad, but overall the problem was getting worse. I hated taking the medications with all the side effects, and I was suffering serious feelings of anxiety like attacks. Years ago I tried ACV but it burned my stomach so I stayed away from it. Earlier this week I had terrible reflux burning and was about to succumb to the "purple pill" once again. After looking for help and finding such good testimonial for ACV on this site I decided that I might as well give ACV a try once again. After half an hour I realized that I didn't have any burning or the sensation of acid coming back up. The pain had gone and I slept like a baby that night for the first time in maybe years. I have been using ACV for a week now and I cannot believe the difference! I didn't realize how disruptive my reflux was! The panicky anxiety attacks have gone. I can breathe more freely, and feel more alive and energetic. I believe this was all connected to the reflux. I will continue the ACV and spread the word. Thanks so much to this site and to all who have contributed their testimonials.

I had acid reflux for several years. After taking raw, unpasteurised apple cider vinegar, I had immediate relief after the very next meal, and constant improvement over the following week. It is now three months later, and I haven't had a single episode of heartburn.
Take a between one and three teaspoons of raw organic ACV in a glass of water 10 - 20 minutes before a meal. I usually digest the meal well, especially if it is a high-protein meal (esp. meat, fish, dairy). The acid in the ACV helps to digest protein. It stops reflux (heartburn) very effectively.
Also, a small quantity of acidic water after a meal helps to wash out any food particles that may be stopping the LES valve from closing properly. The acidity also helps it to close correctly, and helps with digestion.
I have also noticed that my skin quality has improved, I have more energy, and sleep better.
