I was on Nexium and I have to stop Nexium for 2 weeks prior to Urea Breath Test. I was OK after the first two days but on the third day I felt my stomach was turning inside out and extremely nauseous. This problem continued for many days where I wanted to cancel my appointment and go back on Nexium. My husband is taking apple cider vinegar for his cholesterol so I decided to give apple cider a try. I mixed 2 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar in a bottle of water (500mls) and a bit of honey because I didn't like the sour taste. To my surprise I got immediate relief and all the reflux symptoms seemed to disappear. The symptoms came back approximately 3 hours later and I took another half a cup of pre-diluted apple cider vinegar and the symptoms went away again. I now pre made a bottle of apple cider vinegar and sip on it through out the day. I don't think I will take Nexium again.

Reply to Irene of Sydney: The best time to take it may be before a meal, although it seems to help anytime you take it. Experiment on yourself, see what is best for you. ACV is one of those remedies that is always good. Best not to drink it with the meal as it will dilute your digestion.

Must one take the ACV with an empty stomach? Will it work after meals, as I had stomach ulcers before?

After a year suffering with reflux ( including sore throat) I went to the doctor who prescribed nexium. I took that for 3 weeks but symptoms persisted and now my stomach felt hard and heavy. I ditched the meds and started to take Apple Cider Vinegar (pure unpasturized). I took it on rising each morning (only once a day - too busy to do more) in warm water. The symptoms eased off and after a week they were gone. And have stayed gone consistently for a month now. What a relief! For everyone because the reflux made dealing with small children difficult (hard to tell the difference between feeling frustrated with kids or just a burning gut :) It's cheaper than the nexium, safer and for me it was way more effective.

For years I have had stomach pain in 2010 an E.N.T doctor told me I had reflux and prescribed Nexium 1 20g tablet twice a day, I took about 6 of the tablets, then decided I would look up side affects on Google. It said they could cause Osteoporosis so I stopped taking them as I have had two total hip replacements 18 yrs ago. My GP put me back on PPS May 2013. I now have high blood pressure. Dr said PPS were causing high blood pressure and heart disease. So I started taking apple cider vinegar on 1 August 2013.

Dear David, It is about 3 weeks since I first contacted you about acv, I am pleased to say it has been an outstanding success, to be able to eat and not end up with indigestion and acid reflux. What I do is take the acv about 1 tablespoon, with 1 teaspoon of carbsoda in a glass of water and drink it while it is fizzing, not that delicious, but it works.(before meals). I Haven't been taking the pps or the high blood pressure tablets, the chemist said my bp was 148/91 hr 87. I am 75 yrs old, Thank you I am so grateful.

I had Acid reflux for six years, I was on all sorts of beta blockers with all the strange names but the symptoms of burning at night would persist. Then a friend said to try Vinegar, this actually reduced some reflux but not cure it. I then tried Hydrochloric acid tablets, after taking them for a week i was cured, been 2 years now and never had reflux ever again. The doctor would not believe me, but he must now as i no longer see him for scrips. Call me cynical but I think that big pharma and doctors work together to prescribe us pills that keep us financially supporting their industry..

Reply to Loree of Tucson: You will need to take ACV for weeks or months, and will probably want to keep it in your kitchen permanently. Take care not to breathe ACV into your lungs. The cough may be caused by your reflux, if so, it may also gradually heal.

Just second day trying ACV and it eases for a little time, I have these little coughs that I cannot get rid of. Deep breaths cause me to aspirate the acid into my lungs creating more problems. Has anyone had to take it for a longer period to have good results?
