Which countries fluoridate their water?

5% of the world's population are forced to drink artificially fluoridated water. In the USA, more people drink fluoridated water than in the rest of the world combined. (1)

It is mostly countries that are subject to the influence of the USA that fluoridate their water supplies. Only 10 countries have over 50% of their populations drinking artificially fluoridated water. (1) They are:

tap water

Australia (80%),
Brunei (95%),
Chile (70%),
Guyana (62%),
Hong Kong (100%),
Irish Republic (73%),
Malaysia (75%),
New Zealand (62%),
Singapore (100%),
USA (64%).

In contrast, only 3% of people in Western Europe are forced to drink fluoridated water. They are:

Ireland (73%),
Spain (11%)
UK (11%).

All other Western European countries have banned water fluoridation, including France, Germany, Switzerland and the Scandinavian countries. (1)

OECD nations that fluoridate their public water supplies are:

Canada (44%),
Chile (70%),
New Zealand (61%)
South Korea (6%).

In the rest of the world, China, Russia, India and nearly all the other countries of Asia do not force fluorides upon their citizens. (1) Only a few other South American countries that are subject to pressure from the USA, add fluoride to their public water supplies.

Israel reverses its decision to fluoridate and then reverses again

On 29 July 2013 in an important decision that was not widely reported in the Western World's media, the Supreme Court of Israel ruled that Israel (previously 70%) must stop adding fluoride to its public water supplies within one year.

Israel joins a growing list of countries that are reversing their decision to fluoridate their water. What is particularly interesting about this decision is that Israel is a close ally of the USA, and despite considerable pressure from the USA they decided to put the health of the Israeli population ahead of American commercial fluoridation interests.

The Izun Hozer Association for Dissemination of Health Education and The Minister of Health, Yael German petitioned the Supreme Court of Israel demanding that the Ministry of Health order the cessation of water fluoridation because it presents health dangers and its benefits are no longer widely accepted.

A 1974 regulation required the compulsory fluoridation of Israeli public water supplies. The Minister of Health Yael German reversed this decision in April 2013. The Supreme Court ruled that the new regulations will not only bring an end to mandatory fluoridation in Israel in 2014, but will also put an end to any fluoridation - mandatory or voluntary. This speaks volumes - water fluoridation is deemed so harmful by Israeli scientists that even those people who want fluorides in their water will not be allowed to add it.

"It must be known to you that fluoridation can cause harm to the health of the chronically ill" including "people who suffer from thyroid problems," Yael German wrote in a letter addressed to doctors opposed to ending fluoridation. "My decision to stop fluoridation was because Israel fluoridated all the water for residential use. In fact, less than 2% of the water is used for drinking. Fluoridating the washing-machine water, dish-washer water, baths, toilets and gardening are actions without logic. Physicians told me that fluoridation can harm pregnant women, people who suffer from thyroid problems and the elderly. I was exposed to studies from the world that raise the suspicion that too much fluoride can harm teeth and bones. In the current state we receive fluoride from several sources: drinking water, toothpaste, cooking water, vegetables, and it is impossible to know what's the dose we absorb. The WHO published a study, which shows that there is no difference between cavity levels in countries that fluoridate and do not fluoridate. Because of this, with all considerations and interests combined, I think that continuing massive fluoridation of 100% of the water was not right and many also think that it harms the basic rights and the freedom of choice."

In March 2016 the new health minister MK Ya'acov Litzman announced that all municipal water would be fluoridated again. The process was to start immediately and would be completed within six months.

Why is water fluoridation so harmful?

Fluorine is an exceptionally dangerous chemical, with fluorides being more toxic than lead and only slightly less toxic than arsenic. Fluoridation is one of the great frauds of the 20th century. Published research shows that a build up of fluorides in the body are responsible for many modern diseases. Here are details on why fluorides are so dangerous, and how to reduce the level of fluorides in your body.
