YES
I am in my 60 s, and when I was a girl my mother used to give us a mixture of borax and glycerine if we ever had a mouth ulcer. She would mix it into a paste and place it on the ulcer with a finger. We would leave it there as long as possible, and later spit it out rather than swallow it. It usually worked within hours. If any of the adults got gum ulcers she used the same remedy for them, always with quick and effective results. Borax is a potent virucide, and the glycerine is used to hold it in place for a short time, in addition to being an anti viral agent itself.
