Ailment: Sinus problems
Remedy: Nasal salt wash
Make a mild saline solution by dissolving 1/2 teaspoon of sea salt in 1/2 cup of lukewarm water. Lie down, or tip your head back, and put 3 - 4 drops of the solution into each nostril with a dropper. Do this every few hours. Some people use bulb syringes, squirt bottles or neti pots.
The most effective way to get a solution right into the sinuses is to stand and bend forward, so the back of your head is parallel to the floor. Use a small spray to put a squirt into each nostril. This method is so effective that it is best to first try one of the other methods above, to see if you have a pain-reaction to the solution. When you are used to it, you can double the strength of the solution (to 1 teaspoon sea salt in 1/2 cup water).

We like to add 1/2 teaspoon of Himalayan salt to 1 cup of water in a neti pot. We used to use 1/4 table salt to 1/4 Arm and Hammer Baking Soda to 1 cup of water. Either way the nasal rinse does not hurt and we can do this all we want to.
We keep a little bottle of the salt in the shower and guess the 1/2 teaspoon for 20 years everytime we take a shower needed or not.

I found out about this today and have got instant relief from a 2 week mcusy viral cough, fantastic (although the remedy I found said to put the salt water into your hand and take a big, massive snort of it up your nostril and take it back as far as you can). I feel human again :-)

Salt rinse cured my sinus flare ups. I am allergic to pollen, dust, and a few other outdoor things. I was taking shots but they didn't work. What a scam!!! So I decided to do as my dear mother used to tell me - spray the nose passage with salt water. I mix it in a little spray bottle and use it to spray up my nostrils in the shower, pinch my nose, shake and blow the crap out. Boy, for the next few days I felt great. Now, I only use it every month or so. If I sense that an allergic flare up or sinus infection is coming then out comes the spray for a few days or a week or so and it will solve the problem. I've been sinus ache free and medicine free for a few years now. Darn glad I found your site to tell others to learn how to take care of themselves without a prescription (otherwise known as low dosage poison).
