You can buy crystallised ginger in Asian stores if you can't find it in your local supermarket. It is made from ginger and cane sugar, and should have no other ingredients or chemicals. It is also easy to make yourself.

YES Ginger is a natural motion sickness preventative. It soothes a queasy stomach and has no side effects. Start 12-24 hours before trip with some ginger powder or crushed fresh ginger in a tea, water or fruit juice. Repeat an hour or two before the trip. During the trip, try nibbling a slice of fresh ginger or crystallized ginger. Adding a little peppermint leaf with the ginger may be even more effective.
