Meditation has an obvious calming effect on the brain, helping to generate hormones that make you feel good. It also helps get things in perspective. However, it will not be a rapid cure for depression. Re-wiring the brain from habitual and regular negative thoughts to positive thoughts takes months of daily positive thinking, on average six months. There are several books on brain plasticity that discuss this. I feel it is essential to use other remedies in conjuction with meditation. The two most effective remedies discussed on this site are Apple Cider Vinegar and Magnesium Oil. Give them a go, because you will feel so much better physically, with more energy. This is the beginning of an upward, rather than a downward spiral!
