YES
If you can get one, a steam cleaner is more effective than a hairdryer. It is also faster, with the hairdryer you have to move slowly to heat deep in the mattress etc. With a steam cleaner the steam gets deep into the mattress quite quickly. Remember also that the bugs can move long distances around the room, or even into other rooms

A friend of mine picked up some bed bugs in her luggage while staying at a backpackers and brought them back to her apartment. They got into the mattress, spread around the bedroom, and went into hiding. Almost every morning she would wake up with a bite or two. They were also biting her son almost every night - it was disgusting and frustrating. For months I tried to help her to get rid of these insects, using fly spray, vacuuming, and even buying new mattresses - it was a nightmare. She spent a lot of money and time with all kinds of products and professionals and the bedbugs would just return. She was discouraged and depressed. Finally, I read that blowing a hairdryer on high heat will kill them and all eggs. Just use an ordinary hairdryer on HIGH HEAT. Blow all along the edge of the mattress, in any folds, buttons, holes and tears, so you get deep into where they may be hiding. Blow the hot air closely and move slowly. Blow into the bed frame, all the nooks and crannies. Blow into the carpet or floorboards, skirtings, and anywhere you think they could be hiding. Thoroughly blow through all luggage in which they may have been transported into your home. This will kill the bugs and any eggs before they hatch. After using the hairdryer, we also gave the mattress, bed frame, suitcases, carpet, floor, skirting boards and everything a thorough vacuum. This is the ONLY thing that actually worked! It's been several months now and no bugs have returned.
