Whitfield's ointment is a thin cream made with 6% benzoic acid and 3% salicylic acid. It is an effective home remedy for skin fungal infections that went out of widespread use about fifty years ago, and is now hard to find in many countries. However it is easily available in pharmacies in Australia and is also sold on the internet. Spread it thinly on the fungal infected skin. If you use too much it feels like it is burning. Don't use it on delicate skin or near the eyes. It is very effective and clears up Dhobies (Jock) itch in a day. However, use it for longer because fungal infections can linger deep in the skin for months. Although Whitfield's ointment is sold as a fungal remedy, I believe it also works well with bacterial skin infections. Try it, and please share your results.
