Vaseline or petroleum jelly stops minor bleeding. Wash the bleeding spot with cold water, then apply a covering of petroleum jelly, and cover that with a plaster if it is necessary. The Vaseline simply provides a waterproof barrier that covers the skin and does not get absorbed.
